This strategy builds upon the foundation laid by the Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, launched in 2021, and the subsequent introduction of the National Net Zero by 2050 Pathway in 2022, outlining the timeline and mechanisms for implementation. Crucially, the Net Zero 2050 Strategy outlines how the UAE will progress from a 40% reduction in emissions by 2030, as set by the UAE's Third Update to the Second NDC, to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The strategy establishes sector-specific targets, aiming for zero emissions in the power and water sector, a reduction to 7 million tons in the industry sector, and a move towards zero emissions in transport, buildings, waste, and agriculture by 2050.
